Altered book pages, Miscellaneous art work

Today, I made a page in the book I am repurposing.  I used a paper towel that I had been using to clean my brushes on. I used Grandmother Stover’s Stikflat glue and applied it directly to the page of the book that I had previously prepared with a coat of off-white paint.  I did NOT apply glue to the paper towel. It was delicate and most likely would have torn. Then I cut up an envelope from some junk mail and made sure I had 3 sides glued down. I colored it with a cerulean blue marker, glued the octopus picture and the word on it, and then applied glue to the back of it and stuck it onto the page. This only took about 20 minutes to complete, so even if you don’t have a lot of time there is still time for creating.

  • Pink Circles of Imperfection

    May 11, 2025
    Miscellaneous art work

Today’s theme was my favorite color. Pink. I used all available mediums that I had in pink. Acrylics, markers, and watercolors in all shades of pink. The circles as you can see are not perfect and I goofed up the order of the colors one time. But that’s ok, that is allowing imperfection, not demanding more than what is. Just letting the colors flow.

  • Creating Fun Abstract Art: A Relaxing Process

Today’s art is an abstract with acrylic paint and black marker. I just freehand painted the three colors and then made the thick black lines with a paint marker. Nothing too technical. Just creating and relaxing.

These freestyle pages that I do will be used later in my altered book that I am working on.

    Miscellaneous art work

Here are 2 pieces made with watercolors. The first is just a sampling of colors. The second was a doodle drawn by using a copper Pen-Touch pen to follow a pebble around the paper. Then, I used watercolors in blues and purples to fill it in.

  • A few beginner’s pages

    May 8, 2025
    Altered book pages

The left side was created with some found gold fringe and the inside of an junk mail envelope colored in with markers. The right side was created with watercolors, acrylic paint dots, and a sticker.
The left side was created with letters cut from various sources and a hair foil decorated with coffee from my hair stylist.  The right side was freehand drawing colored in with watercolors.
The left side is a tracing of a leaf from a hydrangea along with doodle lines with paint markers. The right side is a sticker from my daughter, along with more paint marker doodles.
The background on these pages is a yellow napkin. I added some pink paper at the top, then some rick rack and round stickers.
The left side is a pocket made out of construction paper and specialty paper on top. The flowers are stickers. The right page I used paint markers to black out most of the words on a page.

  • Welcome to my first blog

    May 8, 2025
    Uncategorized

I am a fairly new junk journaler.  I will be publishing pictures of my work and documenting what I did to create it. I believe that this is a very therapeutic activity, and I hope to reach people who need a creative release even if they maybe don’t know it. I was able to collect enough paper supplies from around my house and one weekend of travel to get quite a good collection of things. I did purchase a few supplies that I didn’t have. One thing I learned that I wish I had known sooner was that the Elmer’s glue sticks are not permanent. So I had to get a different brand. I got a UHU stic from Amazon.

This is a container that I filled with small pieces of paper that I collected.  Junk mail is great, I have a coffee sleeve, some receipts, some pages from a book I’m altering, and lots of other things.

  • Blue and White

    August 13, 2025
    Miscellaneous art work

I traced around a piece of string that I spread out on my paper to start this one. Then I used a blue acrylic paint pen and colored in some of the open spots and made flower designs in the rest of them. Then, I used a white gel pen to make the white flowers over the blue areas. I have done this in black and white, but I really like how it turned out using blue instead.

    Altered book pages

Just glued a couple of pictures I printed on to the cover of this journal.  The sunflower is my state flower, and yellow is my good friend’s favorite color. This book was made for her birthday with memories of our times together inside of it.

  • Doodles

    Miscellaneous art work

I have been trying out some more detailed work lately. I am using an ultra fine point black marker to create the doodles. In this one, I used a variety of different shapes and patterns.  In the picture below, I made circles and darkened the space around them.

Just a simple color block with random words. This was enjoyable to make. Searching for words I like and have meaning to me. Then, randomly adding them to the colored squares was gratifying.

    Collage Cereal Box Cover
    Photo sleeves 4 x 6
    More cut outs

I made a 3 ring binder out of a scrap paper collage cereal box for the front and the back. Then, I purchased some plastic photo sleeves to put my words and individual letters along with shapes I have been cutting out. The only problem is if it got tipped upside-down, some of the pieces would fall out. Otherwise, it is working great for me.

  • Cutout birds and stuff

    Miscellaneous art work

The other day, I traced some shapes onto the baks of some of my colored pages that I’ve been working on and cut them out. The bottom right is a dovethe top left is a little standing bird. The top right is a primitive looking tree or branch. Then the rest are just random shapes. I did make a few more today, but I didn’t get a picture of them. I will use these on future journal pages.

    Miscellaneous art work

I haven’t made a new post for a while. Life has changed for me in the past week or so. It has become much busier and a little chaotic. I have not made any new pages, but I have been doing some restorative coloring on scrap papers.  Using a black acrylic paint marker and colorful alcohol markers. This has kept me sane during a stressful time. There is no pressure, and if I make a mistake, I just move on.

Altered book pages, Miscellaneous art work

Today’s art consists of 2 book pages I removed from my altered book. I made simple designs on each of them, one with white paint marker and one with black. Then, I simply colored them in with mostly light colors so the words would still be visible underneath.  I am pleased with how they turned out. I will use these in future projects. I may glue them to a page or cut them or tear them and use them for collage.

    Art Journal Pages

Yesterday’s project consisted of making a page in my long skinny art journal.  I used a cut out of a collage from a master board that I made last week for the background. I  cut out words and the flag from some junk catalogs. The Enjoy and good times are stickers I got somewhere along the way. It’s just simple gluing mostly.
